Some prescription drugs are addictive
Prescription medications such as pain relievers, tranquilizers, stimulants, and sedatives are very useful treatment tools but sometimes people do not take them as directed and may become addicted.

Every day millions of Americans take prescription drugs as a necessary part of medical treatment. In most cases these people take their medication with no adverse effects. However, there are some who experience serious adverse effects due to pharmaceutical company negligence. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) requires drug companies to thoroughly test all drugs and medicinesIndiana before making them available to the public. When someone has suffered injury from a defective prescription drug, they may be able to recover damages. An experienced Indiana Drug Litigation Lawyer can help you understand your legal rights.

The Journal of the American Medical Association reports that 100,000 Americans die yearly and 2.1 million are injured because of adverse reactions to prescription drugs. One in five patients have not taken a particular drug prescribed for them because of information about possible serious adverse effects contained in the patient packet insert. Studies have concluded that 17% to 25% of all hospital admissions are related to adverse side effects.

Lawsuits against drug companies are on the rise. Litigation against drug companies can take two forms: liability and negligence. Liability focuses on the product and whether or not it has a defect that makes it unsafe. Negligence questions whether the drug company has acted with reasonable care in manufacturing its product.
